Ipswich Empty Shops Network
The Eastern Enterprise Hub is working up a pilot project to inject some energy and life in to vacant spaces in Ipswich and we would really value your thoughts and input.
‘Meanwhile use’ is the temporary use of vacant buildings or land for a socially beneficial purpose until such a time that they can be brought back into commercial use again. It makes practical use of the ‘pauses’ in property processes, giving the space over to uses that can contribute to quality of life and better places whilst the search for a commercial use is ongoing.
Empty spaces are a blight to communities, a financial drain to owners and stimulate wider civic problems.
The Eastern Enterprise Hub has been working on this project with Meanwhile Space; a Community Interest Company who are the recognized experts on meanwhile uses for empty spaces. Together we combine knowledge and experience to:
• make the concept of meanwhile more mainstream
• support people to access space that is less exclusive
• advise the public and private sector to initiate schemes
• directly deliver space animation projects.
This project will attract enquiries from users looking to use vacant or underused spaces. Proposed uses vary; some seek the opportunity to trial a new business idea or support an existing enterprise with publicly visible activity. Others want to engage with the public for a community rooted project or cultural activity. Others simply want a pop-up or “meanwhile” space to try things.
