Peter Disney, Managing Director - Wood & Disney Ltd

Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers

How long have you been involved with the Eastern Enterprise Hub?

I first met the Hubbies in November 2013 and I carried out my first presentation/workshop on 26 March 2014.

Why are you involved? What do you like about it?

I talk to business start ups and small businesses about accounts, tax and making profit. I like to make a difference. The failure rate for start ups is very high, so I want to help improve those statistics.

How is it valuable to start up entrepreneurs?

It gives start ups skills and support to help them make their businesses a success.

Louise Stephens, Owner - Marketing Fox

Marketing Agency

I'm passionate, creative and driven!

How long have you been involved with the Eastern Enterprise Hub?

I've been involved with the Eastern Enterprise Hub for three and a half years.

How are you involved with it?

I'm thrilled to be a mentor for Amy Bramwell the Marketing Manager at the Hub and I'm also a speaker for the various cohorts. In fact, I don’t think there's a group that has gone through the Eastern Enterprise Hub over the last three years I haven’t run a session with on either Marketing or how to pitch!

What do you like about the Eastern Enterprise Hub?

I first became involved with the Eastern Enterprise Hub when I was looking for a venue to hold a seminar - of course the stunning ‘Fish Tank’ meeting room provided the perfect space! I was then asked if I could run a digital marketing session with a group of social entrepreneurs. The rest, as they say, is history. I love the variety of people on each course and I enjoy working with the 6th form students, as well as the more established entrepreneurs. Watching people’s confidence and businesses grow over their time at the Eastern Enterprise Hub is such a rewarding experience.

How is it valuable to start up entrepreneurs?

Eastern Enterprise Hub entrepreneurs are exposed to advice and insight that they'd otherwise not have access to, as well as having a friendly learning environment and a space where they can have open discussions about their businesses, success and struggles. I'm a huge advocate for the Eastern Enterprise Hub and would recommend it to anyone who is starting up a business or looking for help with a young company.

Cathy Frost, Owner of LoveOne

Quirky High Street Retailer

How long have you been involved with the Eastern Enterprise Hub?

Since the start; I was one of its original Business Superstars.

How do you support it?

I provide business mentoring & advice to its students and fellows.

Why are you involved with the Eastern Enterprise Hub? What do you like about it?

Starting your own business is an exciting but daunting challenge. There are many highs and lows. It’s rewarding to give something back and to share your experiences; helping to shape the entrepreneurs of the future. Sharing is a two-way exchange - I've also learnt a lot about myself and how I run my business. Businesses should always be evolving!

How are the programmes valuable to start up entrepreneurs?

The Eastern Enterprise Hub is a unique resource for start-ups. Offering advice, mentoring, workshops, and networking all in one place.

Joel Furniss, Ashtons Legal

Law Firm

How long have you been involved with the Eastern Enterprise Hub?

I've been involved for around two years.

How are you involved with it?

I lead workshops / sessions for a variety of groups taking part in Eastern Enterprise Hub programmes. I discuss a wide range of legal issues, which affect new businesses. I also support the Enterprise Academy, of which my firm is a sponsor.

What do you like about the Eastern Enterprise Hub?

I previously ran my own business - away from law - so I know the commercial realities of 'starting up'. Now, I feel I'm able to provide some potentially valuable tips based on my own experience. I love the variety of the individuals and businesses involved with the Eastern Enterprise Hub programmes. The sessions are most fulfilling when the discussion becomes 'open' and everyone realises that they are all essentially in the same boat. The Eastern Enterprise Hub provides a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to learn from each other.

How is it valuable to start up entrepreneurs?

From those at the initial 'ideas' stage, to those further along their business journey, the programmes are extremely valuable. There are many legal obligations and concerns facing new businesses, and it's crucial that any start up entrepreneur is aware of these from the outset. My sessions with the Eastern Enterprise Hub provide the opportunity for entrepreneurs to find out which of these legal issues are most relevant to them.
